Plague first. Then adventure.
Feb. 20th, 2008 01:26 pmI'm finally back at work today. My fever only broke in the wee hours, so I came in during the afternoon, figuring I didn't really have a full day in me. Takin' it one piece of gorram paper at a time here.
Also, my brain is starting to make lists again. That's a good sign, since this weekend is going to be full of Adventures.
a. I get to hang curtains. This is not a complicated task, but I've never really done it on my own before. Isn't that silly? Usually, I ask the resident Tall Person to handle such things. But, in preparation for Saturday's open house (another adventure), I got some curtains to dress things up a bit and now they need to be hung. Which means I get to use my new Tomboy Tools (more adventure yet!). Decorating AND leveling! I promise not to literally swoon with delight while I'm on the step stool.
b. I open up the house for another Open House. This has entailed less frantic project-based work than last time, thank goodness. But there's quite a bit of spiffing up to be done -- I lost some serious work time to being sick this week. As the event gets closer, I'll just have to reconcile myself to certain things not getting done, but if you feel like coming by on Thursday or Friday evening to, I don't know, wash some baseboards or something, lemme know. Heh. We've gotten some discouraging feedback on the house that says people generally think it's priced too high for the work that needs to be done. But really...it's already priced about $30K *lower* than its appraised value. At least they're not saying it's messy or smelly. There's the possibility that we can market the sale as an "assumable mortgage," which might be helpful. Still some homework to do on that score.
c. I host the Mid-Reign Feast for the local Amtgard group. Apparently, there will be a tournament of arms, an arts & sciences display, AND a "slave auction." OMG. I am so out of my league here. At least all I have to do is take care of the feasting part; more experienced folks are taking care of the other stuff. PB is really enjoying this stuff, and it's fun to be able to share it with her, even in the role of mostly uncool Mom-type.
d. I get a new doorknob/lock on the front door. After a few years of this one being really tricky, it'll be nice to have one that works better. Heck, if somebody wants to come see the house, we want them to be able to get in, right? So. If you currently hold an "emergency key" for my house, please prepare to discard it. This task is scheduled to be completed in time for my Realtor to show up for Saturday's Open House, so I can hand her the new key and make sure it's replaced in the lockbox then and there.
