Winter Avarice Wish List
Nov. 16th, 2007 04:26 pmThis is an exercise in thinking about stuff I'd really like to have, as a break from focusing on NEEDS.
ETA: Here's how it goes...(according to
featherynscale, from whom I got the idea. :)
The Rules: Also Yclept Howe Thou Dost It Without Making Fail.
Make a post that contains your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.My email address is on my profile.
- Also, you might post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
1. Breakestra, Hit the Floor. At least four songs from this album (er...CD) have a thumbs-up on my Pandora "Brick House" station. I have yet to hear a Breakestra song I don't like. Many thanks to
gmskarka for his Friday music posts for introducing me to the band. They're funkalicious.
2. Flannel shirts. Specifically, I would like shirts suitable for weekend schlumping and Friday workplace casual wear. I am experiencing a distinct lack of flannel in my life. Flannel happy pants (which I will never ever remember to make for myself) and gigantic schmoobly sweatshirts, as variations on a theme, would also be appreciated.
3. Gift certificates. What a treat it would be, to be treated to a haircut, manicure, pedicure, or massage! Lovely, lovely things to have in one's life, but generally not in the budget.
4. Fresh flowers. For no reason whatsoever. I love them so -- the brightness of color, the softness of petals, the scent of sweetness. But, oh! the frippery. I'll put a shout out here to recommend the service at Santee Floral at Johnson Drive & Merriam Drive in Merriam (flowerskc.com). They rock my socks and are responsible for the "Happy Anniversary and Voluntary Sterilization" bouquet I sent to EHQ way back when.
5. Firefly or Battlestar Galactica episodes on DVD. OMG.
6. A leather jacket. I've recently acquired a perfectly decent wool-blend coat that oughta get me through what's predicted to a warmer winter than usual, so this is a stupid thing to be wishing for. I just really want a leather jacket. I lust after
featherynscale's -- textured black leather, zipper, slightly shaped, covers the hips but not the entire butt. Not sure how somebody would size me, though. I'm kind of a thug among women, with some bubble wrap. Oh, well.
... will add more later ...
(and here's some now!)
7. Frozen cookie dough. OMG, I *love* frozen cookie dough. I don't eat it frozen. Nope. What it does is -- and this is pretty miraculous -- allow me to BAKE COOKIES. Sure, if you want to get picky about it, pulling a nugget of cookie dough out of the box (some of them come like that, not even in a tub, can you believe it?), putting it on a cookie sheet, and putting it in an oven until it's brown-but-not-burned might not really be "baking" in the way
kittenpants would do it. But I get to wear an apron, and use the oven mitts, and call everyone to get fresh cookies. Which I like doing. A. Lot.
8. Some art. Like, matted and framed. Big, artsy art. Little art, artfully arranged in artful groups. You get the idea. Of course, art is such a personal thing that I don't know how anybody would choose it for me. Still. I crave some really lovely artistic things in my world -- beautiful textiles to drape, pottery to display and use, glorious things to hang...that sort of stuff.
9. Planning & organizing things. Just about anything from the Franklin Covey store. I grieve for the Organized Living store that used to be at 119th & Metcalf.
10. Ballet. I would love to go to the ballet. Or go see one of the troupes that tour through the Lied Center or JCCC. The evening out, dressing up, the magic of the lights and the curtain and the music and the dance. And not having to make all the logistical arrangements myself, you know? Shit, I'm tearing up, just thinking about it. ::sigh
