A child of the '80s Listens to the Radio

What a wonderful surprise! I woke up this morning to -- get this -- a new release from Simply Red...that samples a Hall & Oates tune. Oh, retro bliss!

That, plus I finally heard the remake of Prince's Darling Nikki. They've slaughtered a song that transformed my sophomore year of high school. I guess you can't win 'em all.

This is your friendly neighborhood slave to pop music, signing out. (I'm going to have to go to counter-culture confession now for sure.)

yeah i totally love simply red's new single. it's been out for a couple of months though. have you heard meat loaf's new single. i have to go out and get his new CD cuz the single is kickin! who did a remake of darlin nikki? is it price or did someone else do it?

It's been out for months? Clearly, I don't get out enough. As for Darling Nikki, it's barely recognizable. They've taken all the growly-/slinky-/sleazy-/slyness of it...and simple plugged in a lot of NOISE! [I must be getting old. But really -- what good does it to to finally hear the song on the airwaves but not be able to enjoy the lyrics? Sheesh.]

An aside: [livejournal.com profile] featherynscale said she's thought of a few counter-culture penances, but none of them are suitable for posting. Considering what she *does* post, that worries me.

that sucks. the best part of darlin nikki was the sleezy, scruzzy way price sang it. i am sorely disappointed.

I must be getting ancient, then -- I snagged both versions, and both sound like mostly noise to me. I think I'll just stick with my usual chick rock and acoustic. Go Ani!

It's a good thing I'm not anybody's confessor, really.
