Singer/songwriter Ann Reed is one of my favorite folk artists. Perhaps that's not saying much, since I know diddly-squat about folk music anyway. Still. She's done some fabulously funny pieces -- about the Minnesota State Fair, styrofoam, and "don't do your deep-fat frying in the nude." But there's also some wonderfully heart-wrenching stuff. Need to replenish my collection of Ann Reed music. One song is playing in my mind now. It means enough to me that I've actually *sung* it -- in front of people and everything. If you know how I sing, and how I feel about singing anything but ritual, then you can guess how much. I can't seem to find the lyrics, probably because I'm uncertain about the title, but here's my best recollection.

I Hope You (Ann Reed)

Don't know you very well
I see you once a week at most
But it's so clear to me
You have a gentle soul, so

I hope you have someone
To share your deepest dreams with
I hope you have someone
That you can feel at ease with

A light in the dark
An anchor, a spark
Someone you can be sure of

I hope you dreams come true
Whatever they may be, and
I hope you see them through
Fight for them 'til the end

I hope you have someone
[can't remember how this part goes]

A light in the dark
An anchor, a spark
Something you can be sure of

A light in the dar
An anchor, a spark
Someone you can be sure of

I hope you have someone
