I'm sort of trippin' still, so I figure I'll just brain dump a bit so as to calm down and perhaps be more ready to sleep afterwards.

Princess PrettySchool had a cough like a barking seal for much of last night, so she stayed home with

agrnmn today. By the time I got home from work, she'd started cooking a fever. The cough hadn't improved much with at-home meds and still wasn't productive. I also didn't like the way she couldn't seem to get comfortable, and was holding her chest very tight-like. She even looked to be starting a bit of the chest-sucking breath and had those pink spots on her cheeks I remembered from Princess Boredom's early asthma attacks. Panicky parents voted for Urgent Care, so off we went before folks showed up for the ritual teams meeting.

Boy, I tell you. Mentioning that a child is having trouble breathing sure moves you up on the triage list.

Not long after, a chest x-ray confirmed that it wasn't an asthma attack. Nope, it was fucking pneumonia. (Not the Latin term.) Plain as day -- even I could see it. Damn. So we have a lot of drugs now, some of which taste so awful that we'll have to get really creative with bribes over the next ten days. She's settled into bed, finally.

Many thanks to the folks who were so gracious about Andrew spending much of the meeting on the phone with me. I inhaled enough of her Albuterol nebulizer treatment that I'm going to be Just Fine for the night. I'll be home with her tomorrow; Daddy is staying home from work tomorrow night so I get a turn at, like, sleeping. Plus, he also gets the Friday shift.
