I'd like to introduce [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom, who has previously only been known here as Eldest Daughter or Princess B¨o]redom, and who has earned herself an LJ account by virtue of buckling down over the summer and getting into Algebra in 7th grade. We figure that indicates a level of maturity, don't you?

However, please note that she's 12 years old. We're being pretty careful with the security and all that. If you're one of our adult friends and would like to friend her, please pay attention to how you filter stuff. We're kind of learning as we go...and setting aside plenty of money for therapy later. This should be interesting.

Thanks. :)

I dunno... I got into 7th grade algebra and then spent most of the time having ruler fights with Jennifer in the back of the class :)

Guess I'd better go and make an 18+ filter now. Because I talk so much about my sex life and all on public filters. Har. (Seriously, though, are there specific sorts of content beyond the obvious that you would want her to not read?)

Oh, dear. That probably rules me out...unless you're not worried about archives? No way I can go back and filter all that....

A better option might be for *her* to friend adults, but they don't friend her. That way their public posts come to her friends page, and she can comment and chat, but the locked ones stay safely tucked away. That's what I do with [livejournal.com profile] dragon_sword. Of course, as all the kids get older, we might do to be more careful about which ones we do lock, that's all. :-)

I, on the other hand, have such a detailed filter system that I never mark anything just plain friendslocked; it's all customed by very specific groups. All I have to do is not put her in one of those groups. I also have a habit (as do, I think, we all) of not putting memes like "What kinky sex fiend from classic literature am I?" behind a lock, which might need to change depending on parental comfort levels (not to mention [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom might not be wanting to see them, either...)

I never did. It was all her fault.

Like I said, we're learning as we go along. She knows that I don't expect our friends to filter their LJ lives for her benefit, and she also knows that if she goes seeking stuff online, she'll find it. And it might not be what she wants to see. :)

Andrew and I are going to be super-careful. The rest of you can choose for yourselves. I think the idea of not friending her back has some merit. We'll have to wait and see. It's not like she's not smart enough to work her way around most net nannies we could figure out anyway.
