stunning moment of self-awareness

At some point last week, [livejournal.com profile] akaashben mentioned that I should try Pandora.com as a mind-expanding musical experience. I started on Friday and had some fun with the whole thumbs up/thumbs down experience. They seem to be narrowing some things down -- I heard a song that I liked, only to click on it and discover that I'd already given it a thumbs-up. So I'm consistent.

Sadly, a song just came on which I liked. Why do I say "sadly," you ask? Well, it's kind of a soft-rock romantic groove thing (so sue me), and when I clicked over to my Pandora window to give it a thumbs up, I saw the artist: Lionel Ritchie. Overcome by the panic of uncool, I gave it a thumbs down and then had to go back and change that to a more honest thumbs up. ::sigh:: Gotta go with accuracy if I want this to work, right? I redeemed myself by immediately liking the next piece to come up: Don't Think Just Move, by Acroma. And, no, I wouldn't have clicked any old thing that wasn't Lionel Ritchie. :) Seriously considering setting up another station just to isolate all the uncoolness that I really love.

Hee. Knowing that you like Lionel Ritchie only inspires me to want to bring you more CDs. By the way, I acquired a couple of Lacuna Coil albums that I don't think you have. I digitized them for my own consumption, but I can't remember if I brought you the discs yet or not. If not, I intend to.

Yeah, there are eleventy-gajillion ways in which I am uncool, but this was sort of a flagship moment. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

I'd welcome more Lacuna Coil. The only CD I've got of theirs right now is Karmacode.

Note: I've just given a New Order song the thumbs down. Whew.

My musical tastes have always been 'uncool.' My brothers (and friends, for that matter) have made fun of me because of it. I refuse to apologize for liking something different from other people. However, it does tend to make me have blank moments when people are discussing music (i.e. Who is Tool again???)

See, that's part of my problem. I *like* Tool -- and if I'd known who to blow to get me tickets to the Lacuna Coil/Rob Zombie concert, I just might have done it. But I also really love me some Earth, Wind & Fire. (sigh) That's why I figger I need to create a couple more stations at Pandora, so they can create different playlists for my different personalities. :)

Unfortunately they Really Frown on streaming music here at work, so I'm stuck with Jack. It isn't bad as variety goes, but I could do without the Kung Fu Fighting quite so often.

You lead a rough life, dear, no doubt about it. :)

No. Sympathy. At. All.

I understand. I haven't had to endure even one John Phillip Souza march while enduring a hangover here.

However, I do have terrible flashbacks with Alvin and the Chipmunks Xmas album.

Thank you for knowing just what to say, especially in the middle of some Hilary FluffDuff thing that Pandora is lobbing my way now. XO

I have their Greatest Hits CD on my Amazon wish list. One of these days I'll have money that isn't earmarked elsewhere to get it too.
