This is a question for KC-area pagan-ish folks.

I'm looking to get a couple of new piercings in my ears as part of some devotional work with Bast in the very near future, along with featherynscale. I've already got two standard holes in each ear, so this would be a bit higher up -- along the edge and in the cartilege. Yes, I understand from experience that there's a higher risk of infection, quite a bit of discomfort, and longer healing time associated with this sort of thing.

While I bet we can go to the mall and get this done, we wondered if there was anybody a bit less...I don't know, Claire's, that does this? Sure, the kicker is our intention; it doesn't really matter a whole lot where we do it as long as our mindspace is solid. But still.

Any ideas?

If you're looking to get a couple new piercings, that can run up quick at a mall store. I think piercing shops are also expensive... but may run cheaper if you're doing a half dozen.

Given the quality of product from Clair's, I shudder to think of undertaking such an endevour there.

You could always take chain maille links and do faux earrings depending on if this is some sort of penance or if it's simply 'playing Bast' like Kimberly did a few years back. I'm sort of confused here, I always thought you were organic and Druidy, and Bast seems more prim and flighty, almost the opposite in my mind. Granted, I'm no expert. 8-)

There's a lot of backstory, too much to go into on LJ, really. :)

I liked the extra piercings when I had them a decade or so ago and sort of look forward to one or two again -- but I bet the maille links would fill in the look splendidly. No way do I want a half-dozen piercings on my ears. More pain, pain-in-the-ass,and paying-out-the-ass than I would want.

It's not penance. And it's a bit more complicated than "playing" Bast. (shrug)

I'll chat with you more offline about the maille links idea.

I'm pretty sure that the last time I got an extra hole done, it was at a Claire's or some similar institution. It never ever healed. This may be a function of my ear rather than of the piercing process. If that's the case, the piercings won't last too long after the event anyway.

I have general good feelings about Irezumi, but have never been there.

Irizumi did Natalie's belly piercing, and they were phenominal. Talked through all the sterilization stuff with us, certifications, and when Natalie started to faint afterwards, the guy literally jumped over the counter to catch her and then proviced her with coke and laying-down time. Full service, baby.

My cartilege piercing that never healed was also a mall job, so I'd support someone who doesn't use a "gun". Irezumi has the benefit of being fairly close to between our two houses....

On the other hand, you could do a set of "up and down the ear" mock-piercings with chainmaile links, which would be pretty sexxay, if not as "dedicated". Depending on the outcome of the GA, then, you could get one done permanently?

If it's higher than the first two holes in the state of kanas can't be done with a piercing gun so you'd need to go to a shop like freaks or skin illastratons *Sp* which is a little cleaner in the long run, and if your going for cartalage the needle is a little better too cause it sorta punches a whole other than pushing it aside and heals much better, pernally i've had really good luck with freaks they now have 3 shops and skin ilastrations is on 87th and farly they did my toungue the 2nd time but it's gonna be around 30$ for a set

My desire for the piercings is only tangentially related to the Bast thing and the God Auction, though that sure lit a fire in me to get it done in the near future.

I *do* think, however, that the "up and down the ear" maille links would be excellent supplementation -- they'll just fill in where the actual piercings don't go. Like I said, only one or two new actual piercings.

Also seconding -- this is where I got my piercing, and where I plan to get my next tattoo. Clean, comfortable, and the guy made me lie down and got me a soda from the corner shop when I felt a little woozy afterwards, even though I wasn't full-on fainting. Prices were quite reasonable.
