Garb lust is hitting early this year. I know I figured on doing breeches with my fencing jacket, but this is teh prettay. You know, except for the hat. I hate hats, even spiffy ones with feathers.

UPDATE: After spending some time looking at it, I really do think this is something I could manage to make for myself, given a decent pattern. If I had a real live sample, then maybe I wouldn't even need the pattern. Gotta love German engineering -- very logical stuff, even when it's embellished. Time to daydream about colors now. I had a compliment from [livejournal.com profile] 8elements yesterday about looking good in red (thanks!), so maybe something that involves deep reds. Hm.

Vielen Dank, mein Herr. ::curtsey:: Sounds like your pretties are coming along well too -- can't wait to see you all decked out!

I still need to figure out how to bribe some leatherworkers to do the breeches (or pants, or whatever they're called) and the gauntlets for that fencing outfit. One of these days, man, it's gonna happen.

[livejournal.com profile] cerrunos is currently working on making chain mail stuffs (including jewlery). He may be available to be commissioned (inexpensivly). Also, he loves to work with leather... :-p

I'm thinking this will be the summer I make the underskirt and the Buchanan tartan overskirt, myself. And I have a basic Halloween-costume pattern for Renaissance garb you're welcome to cannibalize. I got it just for the skirt and overskirt parts.

This site has several patterns numbers listed, if that helps. The one I have is #8715.

I already own a handful of those. Maybe I just need to get me some muslin and a few costuming books and start crafting a pattern for my own damn self, using a bit from here and a bit from there. (I say this, and mean it as a Good Thing.)

Brilliant! low-profile kydex armor will fit under that... but what are you thinking of for a helm? ::snicker::

She doesn't like hats, man!

Not a hat, helm! Required piece of equipment. Ninja-like reflexes don't count in the Earl Marshall's eyes. 8-)

I don't think I'd want to do heavy fighting in that get-up, but it might do for fencing -- with a splendid gorget and a big ploofy feather on the fencing hood.

Now, the current fencing jacket might transition well into something I wear under/over armor. (plotting now)

One of the swords I had out when you and Drew were over was a rapier design, I made it so I could go florentine. If one could adapt a rapier-fighter look into heavy fighter standards, that would be a hoot to bring out for a crown tournament. Granted, one would want to be VERY well armored for -that-.

The low-profile armor thing has me plotting many things. Many of them worthy of an eye-roll. Thankfully, I am not free of my GI Bill spending until Fall of next year, so perhaps I will stop being silly by then. ALthough it would be interesting to gender-bend on the field like so many others do... particularly going the other way. The problem is, I would only want to do that once for the shock value... so it would be a lot of armoring for a single-use outfit.

Hmpf.

It's still a hat.

I was going to amend that to bunny-like reflexes. LOL!

Is an aircraft carrier a boat? Heck no, it's a ship!

It's a guy thing, if it's military, it's up and octave from what everyone else has. 8-)

Speaking of costuming, we're still planning on taking care of Princess Sticky's halloween costume. :D

I'm thinking it should be sturdy enough for play and rumpus, machine washable, and fairly adjustable for size so she can get at least one year of dress-up mileage out of it before it is passed on.

Still not sure what the costume will be, but so far we're leaning toward pirate. :D

Her love of piracy continues unabated, but she somehow melds it seamlessly with the a very ball-to-the-wall princess mentality and a sincere desire to wear Nothing But Pink lately.

Yup, that's a godzilla figurine in a bunny suit. Picking flowers. You got something to say about that? (grin)
