saffronhare: (If I Could Explain)
For I am an unrepentant slave to the Top 40 Beat. I have a lot of friends with fabulous taste in music, which they share with me, and which I like.

In high school, it was the friend who played nothing but Squeeze. And another friend, later, who got me into Yaz and The Cure. In my first year of college, it was the boyfriend who made cassette tapes for me (remember those?) with songs from Velvet Underground and The Band. These days, it's stuff like Nine Inch Nails, Olympia's Daughters, The Elders and the incredible variety that comes from Pandora -- even the Friday playlist from [livejournal.com profile] gmskarka, bless 'im. I like almost all of it. Heck, I even heard a Garth Brooks song the other day and kind of liked it.

And yet.

I will listen to Mix 93.3 even when my preteen isn't in the car. Turned up loud. I'll sing along, and wiggle my butt to the beat and everything. And I'll love every blissful pop second of it. That new Nelly Furtado, Give it To Me? And Hello Goodbye's In Your Arms?

::happy sigh:: If groovin' like this is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.

So there's Physical and Emotional Reality, and Mythical Reality. I think I've discovered one more today: Bureaucratic Reality. (Which I also, apparently, cannot spell.)
