Or, as [livejournal.com profile] rougewench put it: beading like a Neanderthal. :)

Remember the prayer bead project I was undertaking for the Breast Cancer 3-Day? Well, I discovered a few important things over the most recent long-distance walks.

First: I really, really need to wear a hat to protect my face from the sun. My forehead and nose are peeling today, which is Super Icky. Yes, I wear sunscreen -- but I fail to re-apply it, and it tends to run into my eyes once I start sweating, despite it being the sports formula. Gah.

Second: I will not be able to tolerate any sort of jewelry beyond my sports watch anywhere on my body, which puts the kabosh on the idea of wearing a bracelet or anklet for to carry the prayer beads.

So. Last night, while I watched Princess !Kaboom at gymnastics, I started sewing the prayer beads onto my boonie hat. Now, it's a Boobie Hat! For the sake of [livejournal.com profile] zylch's sponsorship of my hair, I'm also willing to attach other items to the hat at her request. I suppose I could dye or spray parts of it pink, even.

I think they came out darn cute -- they're arranged like little flowers and stuff. Pictures to follow soon, if I can convince [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn to snap some photos...even if he's likely to insist that I wear the hat and allow myself to be photographed in it. Gah.

I've been struggling with how to offer the stories of [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom going to middle school this year, but there's been no real news. See, she's Unimpressed. I hear bits and pieces about how horrifying some of the eighth-graders are, and how boys just don't get hygeine yet, but not much else. She made a point of telling [livejournal.com profile] dragonsword in the car the other day that she never tells me or her dad about her crushes. Which leads me to suspect that a crush may exist...

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] druidevo, she's got that math teacher you were talking about. Once Gilgamesh's (the only name I can attach to this person in my head, despite its obvious wrongness) non-blinking behavior was gotten past, her judgement was that he's funny. And that Algebra is No Big Deal. The locker challenge has been overcome...she doesn't have to share it with anyone after all...and the horrors of gym class seem to be taken in stride. The rest is her story to tell, so I'll let it be for now. (grin)

There was some debate at the dinner table about how she's gotten much too tall to be an elf after all, but perhaps some sort of Nordic Half-Elf. We also can't figure out what level she might be these days. Fiona still seems to be a halfling -- three safety patrol girls tripped over each other trying to be the one to walk her from the car to the door today, once she emerged onto the sidewalk to a chorus of "Hi, Fiona!" greetings. And Kira is developing well into a pixie of some sort -- one of her teachers said to me on Monday, "she's quiet, but wow does she ever have a sly sense of humor."

It was later put forth that my mother is also a halfling/Hobbit (if a tallish one); my father is at least half dwarvish (whose mom might have slept around a bit, for him to be so tall for a dwarf). Geez, I guess I have a little bit of geek cred after all.
