Home Improvement Porn
May. 7th, 2006 09:41 amUPDATE: I am a home improvement porn star. The re-caulking looks really awesome. This, after discovering that the first two tubes of caulking were old and stale because they exploded all over the place as I tried to use the gun. Gah. That caulk just splooged everywhere. (giggle) Anyway, the third tube we found was unopened and therefore much more cooperative -- a great relief, since I'd planned this to be a project with a budget of $0 and purchasing new caulk would've banjaxed that. There's one spot that might need a second application because the gap is pretty big, but otherwise everything looks faboo. (strutting proudly) I am now ready to Re-Caulk The World.

Thanks to
agrnmn and the indulgence of the folks who were here gaming, shower doors came off their tracks around lunchtime yesterday. Tub and shower area were scrubbed down thoroughly so I'd be starting with clean surfaces and not have to worry about super-industrious cleaning over brand-new caulk anytime soon. Kaboom is awesome stuff -- stinky as all get-out, but really the first cleaning product that actually works like the commercial says. I <3 Kaboom.
It took some hours to get all the old caulk out and make sure all of the yuck was truly removed, particularly since I had a great deal of supervisory assistance from the youngest Princesses. Eradicated the rest of the mildew with a bleach spray and brisk rinse just after 8 p.m. and let it dry overnight.
Now, I'm about to go tape up the joints (so I have a real nice edge, dontcha know) and gather balls in hand to apply the caulk. Still need to confirm how long the caulk will need to try, but we can still bathe (carefully) in the tub or shower upstairs if necessary for the next 24 hours. I am still very pleased and having lots of fun, but I think this experience is a very strong argument in favor of a huge claw-foot tub and separate shower enclosure. You know, in all that extra space we've got in the bathroom. :)
