Sensory overload.
Dec. 20th, 2005 11:11 amThis has been a week of extremes in terms of sensory input so far.
Dislocated shoulder, recently un-dislocated. Wonderful variations in pain: vicious and stabbing, to dull and aching, to shooting and the numbness that somehow manages to be painful anyway.
Taking Tramadol last night drifted me into a strange not-sleep state, where the cycle kept kicking me out before actual nodding off happened. Not sleeping, but really blissful anyway. I can certainly see how that stuff can be addictive. I swear my body was *singing* -- but my hearing is curiously muffled.
Unfortunately, that did not save me from
agrnmn's snoring, for which I finally went out the car and found earplugs. I've never tried them before, but they could be brilliant. The general swaddling of pain meds, topped by the ear plugs, made for a very other-wordly night. Got to sleep a bit before 1 a.m. and literally couldn't figure out where I was this morning. I'm not entirely certain I'm fully in my body again, so pain has become a welcome achor for me.
Heard some Genesis on the radio on the way in -- Mama. You know, with the 47 different layers of rhythm. Harmony, schmarmony. Gimme that percussion.
I think I'm going to be lost in sensation all day now. But really...is that such a bad way to pass the time?
