I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] triadruid last night about Princess Boredom being at Poppy Camp and how it seemed to me that this year hasn't given us the reprieve that other years have. She's been gone nearly two weeks now, and I have nothing much to show for it except slightly less laundry and a supply of breakfast cereal that lasts a few extra days.

Later next week, Princess !Kaboom leaves. And about two weeks after that, we drive to Florida for a smallish Clan Gathering. So I'd better get off my ass if I expect to have anything to show for this year's Poppy Camp.

This Cancerian is getting ready to be all efficient and shit. Jump back!

Laundrypalooza: If we can spend some quality time washing sheets and blankets, laundry will again be under control. "Under control" means just a regular load or two every day, but the stinky backlog will be gone and the view from the top of the stairs will be less daunting. Managing this during the week will leave more time on weekends to get ahead on bigger, badder projects.

Princess Boredom's room: She did a really great job cleaning it before she left, but we've since let kids be in there to watch movies, which means there is little kid debris in there. Not nice for her to come home to. Want to straighten up a bit and put clean sheets on her bed for a nice welcome home.

Painting: Work in the hallway and entryway has seriously stalled out. Need to get back to that. It's not a lot of work to do, really. And we have the materials for most of it, so all we need to spend on it is some time and effort. But I find I spend so much time just trying to keep up/catch up with everyday chores that sitting down to do some of that extra stuff just never happens. See Laundrypalooza, above.

Bedroom Carpet: The grossness of this carpet plagues me. I can't make it smell better and I can't make it feel better under my feet. It's gotta go, but it won't go easily. There are actually two layers of carpet, plus some sticky foamy gunk that will need to be scraped. Not that this will make the floor lovely -- no, the floor will need to be refinished or covered with something less gross, which we can't afford right now. ::sigh:: One of these days, I'll make good on my threats to [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn to tear it out while he's gone. And then he'll be mad. But the carpet will be outta there. The conflict is really giving me fits.

Yard: I'm getting tired of our house looking so neglected from the outside. Again, this is a matter of having time outside the M-F grind to work on it. I'm perfectly capable of mowing a lawn, and I really love pulling weeds and such. I just lack the fortitude to watch and occupy children while I do it. They really can't help me pull poison ivy (or whatever horrible things we have) out of the strip next to the driveway. This is also a thing that takes some money. One can only tear so much out before one needs things to fill in the blank spaces...mulch and edging, for starters. I ache to have a garden again.

For good or ill, I haven't set the pattern for that. Plus, my Piscean husband is very sensitive to how things feel under his feet. He really doesn't look forward to how the floor is going to look or feel between the pulling up and the finishing off. He's also a bit twitchy about starting one project before another is finished, which is why I want to get in some work on the hallway. Everything but the ceiling there can be finished without spending money, I think. The dining room not being finished isn't my fault. Unless he wants me to start doing carpentry, which none of us is really ready for.

My Scorpio must have his mind on higher (or deeper) things. *falls over dead from the funny* Or perhaps he's just become inured to it.

"Honey, didn't we used to have a wall here?"

That sort of thing.
