Will one of you fine people please remind me which air freshener scents are "better" for covering up the scent of marijuana smoke?

Cluelessly yours,
N

UPDATE: Thanks, everyone. It was very helpful. The perspective we were needing to work from was that of a parent who might want to pay attention to clues suggesting marijuana use. I'm loathe to imply that burning incense is objectionable, because the kid might just be pagan, so maybe I'll concentrate on the citrus-scented air fresheners...which would seem to be out of place in a teenager's room anyway.

Haven't the foggiest. I mean, patchouli and opium complement it, but that's probably not what you're going for. One hopes there's an interesting story behind this?

Just tell whoever, "it's sage used for clearing negativity". That will add to your story. and one is forth coming isn't it?

Yes, there's a story, but I doubt it's particularly entertaining. Just something to set the stage for some other things about children's programs and such. Yeah, that's awfully vague. It's work.

There's very little that will actually cover it up, because Nothing in the World™ smells like pot (literally). Sage is a close approximation, so if you're going for plausible deniability ("Nope, no pot here, we're just a bunch of Amerinds!"), that might be a good bet.

Is it on clothing, breath, or people? Clothing should be washed, as should people. Breath can be minted out of all recognizability, although once they recover, the target may still think "But wasn't there a hint of marijuana under all of that peppermint?" An ionizer can help with a room, though it is by no means an instant recovery process. Scrubbing the walls also helps, unless they're plaster, naturally.

There. Wasn't that educational? I need a brownie.

Interestingly, the aroma of burning wormwood is markedly similar to the smell of burning pot. Of course, wormwood is probably harder to come by.

Attending college in the 70's acquainted me with the most amazing bits information.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of air freshener -- exhale through a paper towel tube with a dryer sheet over the end.

At least I think that is how you spell it. It's an industrial hospital type air freshner. Lemon sented I think. And it amazingly does take it out of the air. Doesn't help much with being absorbed into clothes, hair or furnature etc.

Here is what it looks like: http://www.keysan.com/ksuai10.htm

So, my initial reaction to your post is that incense works better than air freshners. However, after reading your update I realize the BIGGEST clue in is dryer sheet smell. I haven't read the comments to see if any body said anything about this and I know you seem to feel as though you have your answer, but I'm telling you, there is no reason you should smell dryer sheets really strongly in your kids room unless they're smoking pot.... If I remember correctly we called it a dubbie tube. You take a toilet paper roll and cover the end with a dryer sheet and stuff a couple dryer sheets inside the tube. And then when you exhale, the only thing you smell is dryer sheet. To reduce getting caught and to be enviromentally friendly we usually used dryer sheets that had been used once before... That is all.

I'll have to remember that for the round of revisions. Thanks!

Analisa informed me this evening (without my even mentioning this post) that we can get wormwood in bulk from Frontier, our organic spice supplier, for a not unreasonable sum. She was suggesting that we get some and make absinthe, and put in a liquor store in the now-empty space next door to us where we could sell it, along with other things we can't carry due to various Kansas laws. Suggested store name: Whole Booze.
