Fun with duct tape.
Nov. 9th, 2004 12:41 pmDiscovered a new use for duct tape last night -- making a corset pattern! See,
zylch and I have decided that we're going to figure out how to make corsets this winter. Thanks to the googly skill of
breathofgold, we found that there are many fun methods of doing this.
The one we chose was to put me in a t-shirt (generously donated to the science by
zylch), then truss me up in duct tape in the shape of the corset I wanted -- an overbust, front-fastening, back-lacing contraption without shoulders that I like very much. Then, lines are drawn on my torso to reflect the pattern/boning lines and the whole thing is cut off my body. (While many others may have heard of this method already, it was a real voyage of discovery for me.)
I've got some heavyweight muslin-y stuff that I used for the lining of my fencing garb that will work as a rough draft for the basting/fitting stage. Expect many interestingfailures discoveries ahea.
Yay, textile science!
