allow me to revise my previous announcement regarding toffee

It's actually too soft to crack properly. I probably didn't keep it at the "hard crack" temperature long enough, or something. Very tasty, though...we'll probably keep this batch around the house as crumbly ice cream topping. We'll have to try again this afternoon. How awful. :)

Second batch is chilling. It smells more like toffee and is definitely a more toffee-ish color. Hard to say if it'll chill and crack properly. I'm certain it will be tasty. If it's another failure...well, I am not going to try a third time for this Xmas, but the gauntlet has been thrown.
