saffronhareBecause, now that I've finished writing this HUGE FUCK-OFF PROPOSAL, ninety minutes is TOO LONG to be at the office. I should go staple some things, that's what my concentration level is right now. So. Friday Five.
Theme: International Travel
You have the summer and plenty of money to travel abroad. Where all would you go?
Im definitely in a Nesting Phase, so my inclination would be to go to one place and Stay There for the duration. Rent a little house or something and just settle in for a long visit. Maybe someplace where I could go to a few places over the vacation, but not an experience where the vacation would be all travel, all the time. Someplace where the country is up against the sea, perhaps? I'd love to go back to Northern Europe.
What foods would you be sure you got to eat?
Not transplanted American food. If I were going to Northern Europe, non-metropolitan areas, then I would also be prepared to do more *cooking* and less dining out.
What landmarks would you be sure you got to see?
It's in my bones to prefer "history tours." I don't want to see landmarks so much as the places where Stuff Happened. Walk the earth; hear the stories; sit and think and BE on the land.
What airline would you use?
Um. I used to love Lufthansa. I think, if one is going to sit on a plane for 8-10 hours, one should be comfy. I've never flown first-class, but Lufthansa was pleasant enough. Even with "plenty of money," I don't know that I'd splurge on first class.
Would your knowledge of other languages influence where you went? (i.e. would you be more likely to go to France if you spoke French)
I think language is a strong factor, particularly if I'm staying a while and don't want to be a hermit. If I were just breezing through, then language would not be as important. Germany is landlocked, so geography makes it less likely that I'd *stay* there, but wow, I'd sure want to visit for a while. And a long weekend in Paris would be pretty feckin' awesome.
