Equal and Opposite
Mar. 10th, 2008 12:55 pmSee, Wednesday is Anti-Procrastination Day. Today, I am not being very productive at all, in terms of billable hours. I am, however, making beelions of phone calls and arranging...er, arrangements for things and stuff. So I am pleased -- and therefore in the mood for a Game.
The product of a discussion between
featherynscale and
arkhamrefugee, though I'm taking it from
rougewench:
"LIFE'S LITTLE VICTORIES MEME
We all have our big victory moments. Graduating from school, getting married, buying a new car, whatever. However, sometimes you need to take a second and celebrate the smaller things in life. Simply list ten things that you feel can be categorized as one of Life's Little Victories and give a brief explanation for each. Then post it in your journal for people to see and participate in. As a small point of egotism, please list who you got the meme from so we can see how it grows and progresses."
1. All the children can sleep through the night, take themselves to the bathroom, and pour their own cereal in the morning. This isn't so much *my* victory, unless you count the birthing part (which sort of gives them short shrift on credit for acquiring life skills) or perhaps that I just managed not to drown any of them in the bathtub. (Oh. That was awful.)
2. Recruiting the volunteer who will construct sparkly teddy bear leotards for *next year's* Teddy Bear Invitational meet. Which means that I know for sure I won't have to do this again. (About 70% finished now.)
3. Replacing batteries in my smoke detectors. Like, when conventional wisdom says I should. I've never done that before.
4. Paying both an accountant and a lawyer in the same month, for business functions. With business money. Kind of exciting, in a Virgo rising sort of way.
5. Remembering to send my niece a birthday card, like, before her birthday.
6. Listening to a process management suggestion from
princessboredom, giving it a try, and discovering that it worked! Then, thanking her for it and watching her flush with pride. Yay.
7. Realizing that
fionnabhar and I are reading/have read the same book, and *both* of us found it to be slow reading. (I have a literary inadequacy complex, see.)
8. Managing my meal planning and grocery lists such that I only shop once a week (and sometimes less frequently). This was a goal of mine.
9. Already knowing what I'll do for Rowan and Fiona's birthdays this year.
10. Chasing down people and generally acquitting myself well at Amtgard yesterday (as such things go), with my shoulder healing pretty darn well. I'm not the mightiest out there, but I think I do pretty well for a (nearly) 39-year-old, overweight broad with a bad shoulder. Favorite overheard quote so far : "Hey, wait! I can't take on that lady by myself!" Yeah, I'm LARPing, but it's FUN.
