So, yesterday, we forked over $2,000 and change for a new furnace. It was a chilly day in the house, what with the replacement taking several hours of work due to the old one being so very old.

How old was it? They had to install a whole new venting system for the new one, in order for it to be up to code and for us not to suffer Flaming Death, that's how old.

Anyway. I cheerfully endured that chilliness in anticipation of the stronger, faster, and more energy-efficient bit of equipment we were getting. We were rewarded with the terrible smell of a new furnace firing up, followed soon thereafter by lovely warm air blowing through the vents. The temperature in the house had climbed back up to about 66 degrees by bedtime. Except. Except that it was only 61 degrees in the morning, with Cold Air blowing at my toesies while I brushed my teeth. This, despite the thermostat's insistence that it wanted the house to be at 68 degrees.

No good. After a call to the furnace fairies, [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn has been able to arrange for them to come look at things and get them pumping heat again tomorrow. We suspect it has something to do with communication between the furnace and its pilot flame, or between the furnace and the thermostat, so hopefully it will not be complicated to fix. ::knocks on wood:: He's got the girls at his folks' house for a Warm & Toasty Sleepover. They are Verrah Excited. I'm here, keeping the dog company and trying to make sure pipes don't freeze or nothin'.

But the good part is that I can hoard every single comforter in the house, PLUS the electric blanket that belongs to [livejournal.com profile] princessboredom. Not so bad, especially when you factor in the cherry Nyquil I'll be taking soon, and the fact that I won't have to get up in the middle of the night to deal with any wakeful children.

I'll get up early to fire up some space heaters. I'll also cook a warm breakfast, so the kitchen will be warm and they'll have warm food in their tummies for the start of the school day. One night of this counts as an Adventure. Two nights? Well...let's not go there.

But right now, I figure there are worse things in life, you know?

Boo to the naughty furnace imps. I hate when they do that. We were eternally grateful that of all the power to be not working, the not-working power did not involve the furnace. I guess our imps like to stay warm.

Yay! At least our imps are not messing with the electricity or hot water, so hey. (shrug) Doin' okay here. Going to have my drugs and go to bed now.

'Nighty night.

Let's don't have your imps call our imps, or they'll shut everything down at once.

Sleep warm!
