Things I'm stoked about:

  1. KiraDeara did a wonderful job leading her parent-teacher(-student) conference. She's brilliant, of course, but also making a lot of strides in confidence and is *so* excited about all the neat stuff she's doing this year (and looking forward to middle school next year already!)

  2. Got some great information from [livejournal.com profile] agrnmn's cousin, who happens to be a nutritionist and who has celiac disease. So that was reassuring. She's friends with FionaPie on FB and continues to "feed" her encouragement and age-appropriate educational bits.

  3. Tested at TKD last night and earned my brown belt! Next group testing is mid-April, I think. If I'm aggressive about it, I could be ready and perhaps move up to red belt then (or at the group testing in July). After that, there's a progression of 2-3 "recommended black belt/black tip" levels before black belt testing. Starting to believe I might actually get there.

Due to a wild and crazy evening ahead for Mom's Taxi, I did my strength workout here at the office. The cage and barbells were in use, so I had to go with dumbbells. Now, the dumbbells they have are pretty nice, as such things go -- rubberized, a set for every 5-pound increment up to 100 lbs, and all that jazz -- and I got in a good workout. I just really really don't enjoy dumbbells. They're great for when I don't have a spotter, but I feel like I'm not lifting enough weight for my bigger muscles because I'm limited by wrist strength. I feel more balanced with barbells, more powerful with kettlebells, and more like Rocky with bodyweight exercises. I know...first-world problems, right?

I know I'm supposed to vary the routines to keep my muscles confused and all, but I think I'm going to limit dumbbells to a specific exercise or two and not try to create a whole routine out of them anymore.
